ABOUT ELENA.
Elena Schiatti is a documentary photographer with expertise in human rights in conflict and post-conflict environments.
Her focus is on women’s social and political empowerment: after having supported the survivors of gender-based violence in Bosnia & Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia as a humanitarian officer for more than 5 years, she decided to face these issues through another lens, that is Photography.
Elena attended an intensive course at the London Institute of Photography, and a specialisation programme on Reportage & Storytelling mentored by the photojournalist Stefano Schirato. She is an alumna of the 17th Summer School in Cinema, Human Rights and Advocacy directed by Nick Danziger, and of the workshops ideated by Daniella Zalcman and Natalie Keyssar from Women Photograph. She is currently attending a Masterclass in collaboration with the Italian magazine L’Espresso.
She fluently speaks Italian, English, French and Spanish. Elena is based between Malta and Italy, and she is open to collaborations for reportage and storytelling of development projects, human rights-related events and small/ethical businesses.
