Giovanni Manfredini (Italy, 1963) is a contemporary artist and painter, who focuses his research on the human body. His works are born from the contact of his body on a surface treated with veils of carbon black - which allows to "record" its shape. The emergence of this sign/body from the darkness represents each human being's struggle to exist despite evil. His own body was almost destroyed by fire when he was 2 years old and now fire itself is central in his artistic work.

He has collaborated with various artists and personalities. The work “Stabat Mater Dolorosa”, a crown made by rose branches cast in gold and suspended in the air, was accompanied by the music of the great maestro Ennio Morricone, who composed an original track for the installation, “La via della croce”. The installation was showed at the Giorgio Cini Foundation during the 56th Venice Biennale, then travelled the world.

Giovanni Manfredini has had solo exhibitions in Madrid, Naples, Milan, Rome, Berlin, Basel, Bern, London, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and has participated in collective exhibitions at the 54th Venice Biennale, MoMA PS1, the Stedelijk Museum, SMAK, Kaiserdome Frankfurt, the Kunstmuseum in Bonn, the Fukuyama Museum of Art, the Modern Art Gallery of Bologna, MART. Currently, his works are exhibited at Palazzo degli Scalzi in Sassoferrato, together with the paintings of Giovanni Battista Salvi (1609-1685).
